Sometimes love scenes are difficult to write. Your mind might be thinking about what to make for dinner, or what to do about that weird sound the car is making, or if tomorrow is trash day. It’s not always easy to focus on how to describe two characters falling in love, or lust, as the case may be.
So what do you do? Well, you can watch TV for inspiration; a favorite romantic comedy, or episodes of a series you love, or something a little more (Fifty Shades, anyone?) or you can read a book you already know has great steamy scenes.
Or you can make yourself a strong cocktail, sit down at your computer, put on your headphones and write. This is the option I usually choose because when it’s time to get down to business, I find mood music really helps.
Here are a few songs that may help you find inspiration when writing an intensely emotional — or physical — scene.
Songs for Inspiring Love Scenes
- Somebody Else – The 1975
- Just Say Yes – Snow Patrol
- Crack the Shutters – Snow Patrol
- Believe – Mumford & Sons
- Wilder Mind – Mumford & Sons

- Like a Stone – Audioslave
- Something Just Like This – The Chainsmokers & Coldplay

I’m always on the look out for new songs for writing, and I’d love to hear which ones do the trick for you.
Until next time. Keep writing!
